Back from Switzerland

Last night I arrived back home from my teaching trip in Switzerland at UNIKAL.
Anita and Elias have such a nice studio
and are really great, lovely poeple.
Thank you Anita and Elias for the wonderful time and thanks everybody for coming to my classes, we had so much fun.
One afternoon I had enough time to make a short walk to the lake near the studio
and enjoyed taking some pictures.
My fav is the one with the yellow flowers, those have been really small blossoms, but seem to be so big...

Which one would you pick?

This week turned out to be great for making fairies. I couldn't stop myself, I was totally in the mood for creating those little girls, even though I had the idea for a set also in my mind... so I just kept going...
All my recent fairies have been born without wings
but for me they are still wish fairies
because I fill them up with good thoughts and I'm sure each finds
her new home where she is ment to be and will be a lucky charm.
So, which one would you pick?
I think I choose #3 and #6.

Have a nice weekend.

Thoughts

I will be teaching this weekend in Switzerland at UNIKAL. Looking forward to do that, I've never been there before, even though Switzerland is pretty close to Germany. While I'm gone you can enjoy this new set on ETSY (I will be back next wednesday to ship beads and answer all emails).

Rainbow Girl

That little girl got her name by the colorful backside of the bead. The silver glass is fading from brown to violet to blue. (sold)
For all of you who are from Canada: I will be teaching there this June, an advanced and a beginner workshop at the Red Deer College. The advanced workshop is already sold out, but there are some spots left in the beginner workshop. Click here for more information and registration, would be great to see you there.

PISMO Fine Art Glass

If you are in Denver, please visit the PISMO gallery to see an amazing bead exhibition. I'm proud to be part of that.

Loving eyes

Sometimes when I photograph beads of mine I suddenly start seeing them with different eyes.
This one for example. You'll find her on ETSY.

Review - back in 2006

Looking back can be something wonderful like digging through a box full of treasures.

Today I'm opening my old note book of past ebay auctions for you. I started it in late 2005 and want to show you a few pics from January 2006 – December 2006. That year was very important for me as a beadmaker (maybe also in life, I'm sure that goes together) and you'll see, there's still a bit of 2006 in my 2010 beads. Enjoy that little journey in the past.

In 2005 I stopped selling my beads at local craft shows and started selling on ebay, which caused a big change for my way of working with glass, because I had more freedom to do what I want instead of focusing on custom orders.

Jan. 2006 – June 2006

The marble beads: I made them for a while for a silver smith here in my city. He was completly crazy about them and ordered them in a certain size and color scheme, which frustrated me and was no fun at all. That's why I slowly stopped to work with him and didn't want to make any marble beads at all anymore. As you might have noticed, after 4 years now, I'm over that trauma and have much fun in doing them again.

Just a fun lentil set

Oh yeah, my "Woodstock" beads. LOVE PEACE AND HAPPINESS, I was so excited while I made them. I'm a real hippie at heart. And that set was one of the first set I made just in opaque colors and that opened my mind to all the possibilities of playing with glass in a heartbeat. I felt it's like painting a picture.

More fun painting with glass. At that time my biggest bead hero was Jennifer Geldard. She's great!

Butterflies

My first set made with my "Rock" shape in combination with twisties and stringer work.

More paintings.

There they are: my first satellites! White opaque base with detailed black stringer work and etched.

Satellites #2: I rememer that I had to make that set twice.
The first one I sold on ebay and the second one for a friend, because she missed the auction and fell so in love with this set. Usually I don't reproduce anything, but people I love might be an exception. I also made a big lentil focal for her in my fav color coral and sent it with this set as a gift. Funny thing about that: I never saw her wearing this set, but very often with the coral satellite lentil.

July 2006 – August 2006

Big rocks.

At that time I mostly made sets and not many focals, because I had a hard time holding that big amount of glass and health problems with my arms.

Etched rocks.

Big etched rocks.

My first fishes painted with stringer work. I always loved water, the sea, fishes, and all about that. The underwater world offers a lot of colors and things to dream about. And I love sushi (that's why I called that set Hoso Maki).

Sept. 2006 – Dec. 2006

Pastell lentils.

More lentils.

Transparent rock shaped beads with satellites.

Transparent light pink with black stringer paintings (abstract flowers).

Lost episode: Two sets and one focal named after a spongebob episode. (scroll down to see set #2 and focal of that)

This bead sold for more than 100 US$ – back in the good old times. Also now my stringer work is much more detailed I like the simplicity in this bead.

Ivory rocks with transparents.

Transparent and etched and I had my first Jim Moore press (the swirls).

Big rounds.

Similar to the "Lost Episonde set #1" but round, with red and opaque.

I loved these! And I remember that I just bought my lightbox. I still use the same one, it's so much easier to take good photos with it.

Matched the set above.

Etched lentils.

Another fish – this time a round focal, etched.

And then I made my first two "Indian Elephants" at the end of 2006. I made sketches before and if you look at my elephant beads now they changed a lot. Fun to look at that prototype again.

I guess I liked to make lentils at that time, I don't used that shape very often anymore.

And the last bead of my 2006 review. A mustard elephant.

Well, going back to the torch now... hope you enjoyed to see into my secret bead memories.
